November 11, 2024

Dear Colleagues,

First off, on this Veterans Day, AANA’s Board of Directors thanks all our currently serving and veteran military CRNAs and residents, as well as those of you who care for veterans, for your service.

We offer our deepest respect and gratitude for the vital role you willingly undertook to defend our nation and preserve our freedom. Caring for military men and women and our nation’s veterans has been a sacred trust of our profession since the Civil War. AANA will never stop fighting for your right to practice to the full scope of your education and training and ensure that America’s veterans receive the respect, dignity, and high-quality healthcare they deserve.

And of course, the week’s biggest news is that the historic, tumultuous 2024 elections have (finally) come to a close.

We are proud of all our AANA members who ran for offices this week. Congratulations to incumbents Jennifer Banek, MS, CRNA (Lake County [Illinois] Coroner), Taylor Rehfeldt, DNAP, APRN, CRNA (South Dakota State House), Keith Macksoud, CRNA, MA (Lincoln [Rhode Island] town council) and Sydney Davis, MS, APRN, CRNA (South Dakota State Senate) as well as Kellie Deeter, APRN, CRNA, newly elected to the Ohio State House!

AANA and our members, along with the rest of nation, are considering what the results may mean for our families, communities, and our course the U.S. healthcare system. In a departure from this message’s usual format, AANA Advocacy will provide insights below on significant federal and state results.

Finally, our thanks go to all of you for participating in our advocacy efforts, making your voice heard by voting and contributing to CRNA-PAC, and for supporting your colleagues and your profession by supporting of AANA.

Sincerely,

The AANA Board of Directors

    2024 Elections: SGA Update

The 2024 elections resulted in changes across the United States on a state and local level. Every state will see changes to its legislature in the next  session, and several states elected new governors and attorneys general. AANA State Government Affairs provides a recap of those races as well as a breakdown of party control in each state here.

AANA imPACt on the 2024 Elections

AANA’s nonpartisan political action committee, CRNA-PAC, has two primary goals: to educate elected officials and candidates for office about the value CRNAs bring to the U.S. healthcare system and to elect CRNA champions to office.

This election cycle, CRNA-PAC was proud to support CRNAs and other nurses running for federal and state office (CRNA-PAC is not allowed to disburse funds in local elections). This year, through the Nursing Votes program, CRNA-PAC launched its first ever direct giving site whereby individuals can directly support the re/election of candidates with an A+ rating from Nursing Votes. Read on for more information and results of CRNA-PAC’s efforts.

The following is an FEC required legal notification for CRNA-PAC. Gifts to political action committees are not tax deductible. Contributions to CRNA-PAC are for political purposes. All contributions to CRNA-PAC are voluntary. You may refuse to contribute without reprisal. The guidelines are merely suggestions. You are free to contribute more or less than the guidelines suggest and the association will not favor or disadvantage you by reason of the amount contributed or the decision not to contribute. Federal law requires CRNA-PAC to use its best efforts to collect and report the name, mailing address, occupation, and the name of the employer of individuals whose contributions exceed $200 in a calendar year. Each contributor must be a US Citizen.
